About the Event
In October 2023, the EU Council of Ministers formally called on member states to strengthen social protection for the self-employed. Luxembourg endorsed that direction. Almost three years on, the question should no longer be whether the system should adapt, but what the reform will bring, and how soon.
In his State of the Nation speech on 19 May 2026, Prime Minister Luc Frieden announced "a concrete action plan to improve social protection for the self-employed, with measures relating to unemployment, social security and tax." Yet at the Chamber of Deputies debate on 18 June 2026, no concrete details were shared. The clock is ticking.
Meanwhile, the reality on the ground is stark.
